A mum didn’t believe her daughter when she said "there’s a snake in the house" until her friend spotted the intruder slithering just behind her and her babies.

Rachel Lorenz was sitting with her fellow mum Dana at home in Butler, Pennsylvania, US, on June 22, playing with their four kids, when one of the kids, Lyla, said there was a reptile in their living room.

Hilarious footage shows Rachel, 31, dismiss the suggestion, as they had seen the snake outside earlier, only for Dana to spot the creature when she stood up.

Freaking out, Dana and Rachel both grabbed their children and ran out of the room, while they shouted for Rachel’s husband Adam to remove the eastern rat snake.

Rachel said: “It really took me by surprise and I yelled for my husband who was upstairs sleeping after working all night.

“My friend Dana did all the screaming and panicking.

“Earlier that morning when we were out on the porch the snake was on Lyla’s play kitchen set and my husband shooed it away. I thought she was still referencing that event.

“Adam caught it and took it outside where we let the kids look at it up close and my two-year-old even touched it.

“Then he drove it about 3/4 of a mile away and released it into a field.

“It couldn’t have been in the house very long since it was just outside a few hours earlier. We think it came through an open basement drain.

“We live on 48 acres in the woods, so we spend a lot of time outside and we see a lot of snakes outside and they don’t bother me as long as they stay outside.”
