Cormorants at rest and at speed on UK's most dangerous shipwreck off Kent

The cormorant is a large, black sea bird that excels at fishing.

They are often seen perched on the masts of the UK's most dangerous shipwreck - the SS Richard Montgomery in the Thames estuary off Kent - which sank in 1944 with 1400 tonnes of explosives onboard, due to the plentiful fish in the area.

Footage shows three cormorants perched on top of the shipwreck's masts and two cormorants perched lower down the masts with their wings outstretched drying them on February 24.

As much as cormorants like to rest, they can, when needed, move incredibly fast - up to 35 mph.

The second clip (filmed March 16) shows a cormorant flying back ashore from the wreck at high speed - all the way back to the Port of Sheerness - a distance of nearly 2 miles.
