The Padang Rescue Joint Team used rafts to help located and rescue stranded residents as floods took hold in the area on July 14.

Footage shared by the officials shows them navigating through the 3-metre-deep floodwater, rescuing children, men, and women.

Mahmud, head of the rescue team, said that there is just over 400 trapped in the flood and only three have been successfully evacuated.

"The evacuation was very dramatic, some were evacuated from the roofs of the houses, some survived with auxiliary equipment, we really prioritize babies, children and the elderly who are vulnerable," Mahmud added.

Mahmud also conveyed "the impact of the heavy rains that flushed the city of Padang all day, approximately 5 sub-districts in the city of Padang were flooded with a water level of 60 centimeters to 3 meters, namely in the Koto Tangah sub-district, the western, eastern, southern and northern Padang sub-districts," .
