Landslide and flood warnings have been issued as West Sumatra province, Indonesia, is battered by heavy rain.

Footage from November 8 shows the downpour hitting the Agam and Bukittinggi districts.

The intensity of the rain, combined with blocked and poor drainage channels, caused water to overflow onto the streets and flood local homes.

The footage shows water overflowing into an electronics repair shop, submerging fridges and washing machines that were being repaired, while the road outside was flooded.

Bukittinggi's Acting Regional Secretary (Sekda), Martias Wanto, said at least 60 houses on the edge of the canal were affected by the flooding.

"Dredging of the drainage had been done before, but it was not optimal. This has been done again and the water distribution system upstream has been checked," added Regional Secretary Wanto.

The flood receded after several hours after the rain stopped. Rescuers were sent to the location to drain the water and clean the mud left by the flood inside the house.

Residents are urged to be on the alert for flooding and landslides.
