PITTSFORD, N.Y. — A 90-year-old woman was rescued from her burning home early Tuesday morning thanks to the swift actions of Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies and partnering first responders.

At 1:04 a.m., a neighbor in the Reeves Road neighborhood smelled smoke and spotted flames at the back of the home, prompting a 911 call. Deputies arrived to find the rear of the residence engulfed in flames. Upon learning the elderly resident was still inside, deputies entered the home, located the woman—who had been awakened by smoke alarms—and safely evacuated her.

The Pittsford Fire Department extinguished the blaze and conducted a full search of the home. Multiple agencies assisted in the emergency response, including fire departments from Pittsford, Brighton, East Rochester, Henrietta and Bushnell’s Basin, as well as ambulance crews from Pittsford, Honeoye Falls Lima and Brighton.

Emergency Enclosures responded to secure the damaged property, and the Monroe County Fire Bureau is investigating the cause of the fire.
