Lorry with failed brakes rams into eight cars before being stopped by dump truck
A lorry with failed brakes rammed into eight cars before finally being stopped by a dump truck.
The incident happened in Sochi, Russia's most popular summer resort spot, at about 2:15 pm on Wednesday, May 14.
Traffic inspectors said the KAMAZ lorry suddenly lost its braking system while travelling at an estimated speed of between 37 and 50 mph.
Dashcam footage shows the lorry smashing into stationary vehicles and eventually coming to a halt only after hitting the rear end of a second heavy-duty dump truck.
Witnesses say the second vehicle had deliberately blocked its path in an apparent effort to minimise the carnage.
Local officials confirmed that the incident led to a multi-mile traffic jam in one of the busiest parts of the city.
The Russian State Traffic Safety Inspectorate reported that four individuals sustained bruises, but there were no fatalities.
Emergency responders and medical staff arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of the crash.
A detour was quickly organised through nearby villages while a fuel leak from the lorry was brought under control by fire services.
A technical inspection of the KAMAZ was carried out on site before it was removed from the area.
