BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. — A routine traffic stop turned into an unexpected animal rescue when Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy Jonathan Amendola spotted a kitten darting across the road.

While conducting the stop in Bonita Springs, Deputy Amendola and the driver worked together to safely catch the feline, which was then placed in the back of the patrol vehicle.

“That is almost the weirdest thing that’s ever happened on a traffic stop,” Amendola said.

The driver received only a warning, and the kitten was transported to Lee County Domestic Animal Services, where it is now available for adoption.
