Passenger slips while boarding moving train as quick-thinking official pulls him to safety, averting disaster
While attempting to board a moving train, a passenger lost his footing and slipped. An alert official immediately sprang into action, pulling him to safety and successfully preventing what could have been a deadly accident.
The incident took place on Platform No. 3 of Pune Railway Station, in Pune district, in northern India's Maharashtra, on July 29.
Visuals show that a man was slipping and falling while trying to board a moving train, and at that moment, a nearby railway police officer caught him and brought him to safety.
Speaking to Newslions, Sumit Yadav, RPF Inspector, Pune, Maharashtra, stated that at 10:20 am on July 29, 2025, as Train No. 18520 Mumbai LTT-Visakhapatnam Express began pulling out from Platform No. 3 at Pune Railway Station, a dramatic scene unfolded. A passenger, hurrying with a bag slung over his shoulder, dashed to catch the already moving train. In his haste, he lost his footing and began slipping into the perilous gap between the platform and the train.
Constable Pandurang Chavan, assigned to ACP Prevention Duty on the platform, noticed the unfolding danger. Reacting swiftly and with remarkable presence of mind, he raced toward the passenger, gripped his arm firmly, and pulled him back onto the platform, rescuing him from a potentially fatal accident. The visibly shaken passenger was soon seated and comforted by the staff.
The man identified himself as Alimuddin Fakir Ahmed Shaikh, aged 47, a resident of:
Survey No. 57, House No. 13/1/1/11, Flat 101, Manzil Haroon Rashid, Shivneri Nagar, near Arafat Masjid, Kondhwa Khurd, Pune.
Alimuddin presented a valid ticket (No. AFF 52200401) for a journey from Pune to Kalaburagi. He admitted he had arrived late at the station and had attempted to board the moving train in desperation. “I lost balance and was about to fall beneath the train. You saved my life, thank you,” he told officials, still shaken from the incident.
This courageous and timely intervention by Constable Chavan undoubtedly averted a serious tragedy. His alertness and dedication to duty were noted and appreciated, and the incident was formally recorded in the daily logbook under Entry No. 44 on July 29, 2025, at 15:45 hrs for official reference.
