K9 Emma Retires After Nearly Decade of Dedicated Service
ST. GEORGE, Utah — The St. George Police Department is honoring K9 Emma, a detection-only canine, as she retires after nine years of exceptional service to the community.
Serving from 2016 to 2025, Emma was instrumental in narcotics detection, limited tracking and evidence recovery. She worked alongside two handlers during her career: Officer Joe Watson (2016–2020) and Officer Anthony Ott (2021–2025).
While partnered with Watson, Emma completed 1,099 deployments, helping seize over $98,000 in currency, 112 kilograms of narcotics, 36 firearms and aiding in 400 arrests. She also assisted with five tracking and article searches and recovered two explosives.
Under Ott’s guidance, Emma conducted 793 deployments, contributing to over $103,000 in currency seizures, 68 kilograms of narcotics, 440 arrests and the recovery of 25 firearms.
“We are incredibly grateful for Emma's dedication and service, which contributed significantly to the safety and well-being of our community,” the department stated.
Enjoy your retirement, Emma — you’ve earned it.
