AURORA, Colo. — Three firefighters were injured Monday when a vehicle failed to yield to an Aurora Fire Rescue engine responding to a medical emergency, according to the Aurora Police Department.

The crash happened around noon on Iliff Avenue near Interstate 225. The fire engine was traveling with lights and sirens activated when a car did not move over or stop, striking the emergency vehicle.

Aurora Police investigated and issued the driver a summons for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, no registration, and no insurance.

The three firefighters were taken to a hospital with minor injuries and are expected to recover.

Authorities emphasized that yielding to emergency vehicles is not optional.

“Emergency lights mean someone needs help,” the department stated. “Don’t make it worse by getting in the way.”
