Big elephant bull sits down to enjoy a well-deserved butt scratch

It was late afternoon during a safari in the Kruger National Park when we came across a herd of elephants feeding along a riverbank. Some elephants in the herd decided to spend time wallowing in the nearby mud pools. Elephants use mud to cool down their bodies. The mud also helps the elephants to get rid of all the insects and parasites stuck to their rough skins. While watching the herd, my eye caught a big male elephant, appearing to be in an awkward position. I realized that this big elephant bull was actually sitting down on the side of the riverbank while enjoying what looked like a well-deserved butt scratch. This had everyone’s attention and put a big smile on our faces. It was really funny to see this huge animal, awkwardly sitting down while slowly moving forward and backwards. The big elephant bull was covered in mud. After his mud bath, the bull elephant decided to get rid of a last annoying itch in a very uncomfortable place. After covering themselves in mud, elephants will normally stand or lean against a tree trunk or rock, scratching off the hard-baked mud which encrusted all the insects and parasites on their skins. It is not a common sight to see such a big animal actually sitting down while scratching his bum. After enjoying his scratch, the big elephant bull slowly got up and casually continued with his journey.
