A man was stranded in the flood for at least five days before being rescued by locals in northern India's Bihar.

The incident took place at a village in Katgharwa of Gopalganj on July 14.

According to reports, the river Gandak flooded while leaving the neighbouring villages completely swamped in water.

Sources suggest hundreds of huts and pucca (permanent) houses were submerged in water and as many as 250 people have been rescued and taken to safety.

Local youth and the head of the Katgharwa Panchayat, Rajesh Kumar Sahni, was assessing the flood situation around Katgharwa when he spotted the man stranded.

The clip shows the man on the roof before getting rescued.

Suddenly he spotted a man on his pucca hut roof shouting for help.

Kumar quickly swerved towards his location and rescued him from the place while taking him safely back to the relief camp at Jagritola.

The video shows the man standing on a pucca house roof which is completely submerged in water from all sides.

As the boat closes in on him, the screams grow louder and he can be seen shouting for help.

The video also shows him narrating his plight, how he was stranded in the hut for at least five days surviving on food and goods he had stolen from the nearby huts.

He mostly survived on eating jaggery that he had in his possession.

He is one of the many survivors who have been rescued by the locals after the flood inundated several villages in the vicinity.
