The Food Safety Department personnel raided a store and seized all the tobacco products from the accused in southern India's Telangana on May 13. The incident took place in Nalgonda District.

A video witnessing the incident features the officials raiding a shop in broad daylight. Following this, they recover several tobacco-related products from the store and an autorickshaw. Moreover, the officials look over and inspect the entire premises to retrieve more items.

Based on intel received by the Food Safety Department, Nalgonda District Gazetted Food Inspector V. Jyothirmai, Food Safety Officer Aina Ch. Krishnamurthy, along with a food safety team, carried out raids and seized about Rs. 7 lakh (USD 9,519) worth of tobacco-related products from the shop.

Following this, the officials registered a case against the proprietors of the Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Traders, identified as Burra Lingaya and Burra Shekhar as the sale of these products can harm the public amid the Covid-19 pandemic, and distributing them during the lockdown has strictly been opposed. Moreover, the officials have sought permission and directives from the Food Safety Commissioner to create a Preventive Detention (PD) Act against such people for violating the orders given by the Government.
