The Royal Navy are planning a two month operation to remove the masts from WW2 American liberty ship 'SS Richard Montgomery' which sank in the Thames in August 1944 with 1400 tonnes of explosives onboard, with work expected to start in June 2022.

The shipwreck lies 1.5 miles north of Sheerness in Kent, UK in-between the Thames and Medway shipping channels.

The wreck is also not far from Europe's largest LNG storage facility - the National Grid's 'Grain LNG' facility - located on the Isle of Grain, less than a mile from Sheerness.

This footage shows: a 'Welcome to Sheerness' sign, people looking at the masts from a seafront bench, close up of the masts, a seafront telescope which looks out to the wreck, Sheerness high street, a seafront poem of the wreck, further close ups of the masts - and lastly - a view of the huge gas storage tanks located on the Isle of Grain with properties in Sheerness in the foreground.
