A pet dog was swept away while trying to cross a swollen river - then emerged safely downstream.

The pooch walked across the raging deluge to reach the other side, but the current was too strong and carried him away amid heavy rain in Udon Thani province, Thailand on June 27.

Footage shows the canine flowing with the raging river. It tried to fight off the water but to no avail.

An onlooker followed the water hoping to help the dog and later found it on a cluster of bamboo on the riverbank.

Ekkapan Wimanthong said: 'The dog tried to follow his owner, and crossing the stream was their usual route. He knew it was risky but still tried. The dog was so brave.'

The pooch was unhurt and found its way home.
