CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Police officers and firefighters rescued a 76-year-old man from a burning home Wednesday evening, officials said.

First responders arrived around 9:10 p.m. Sept. 10 at a residence on Donner, where they found the back of the house fully engulfed in flames. While on scene, responders heard gasping from a front room and entered the home to pull the man to safety.

The man sustained burns to the left side of his body and was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital. He remains in critical condition on a ventilator. No other occupants were found inside the home.

“Today’s actions by our police officers and firefighters exemplify the very best of public service,” said Director Bassett. “Their courage, quick thinking, and teamwork saved a life under incredibly dangerous conditions.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Alexander at 586-949-3269.
