CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Two officers with the Cambridge Police Department rescued an injured person from subway tracks inside a Central Square station Saturday, moments before a train was expected to arrive.

Police said the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Dec. 27, 2025, when officers learned that a person had fallen onto the tracks inside an MBTA station. Upon entering the station, officers determined the individual was injured and unable to get off the tracks without assistance.

Officers were also advised that a train was expected on that track within approximately one minute, leaving little time to warn the operator or shut down third-rail power. Police said the officers did not hesitate and jumped onto the tracks, pulling the injured person to safety.

The individual was later transported to a hospital by emergency medical services for evaluation of their injuries. Police said body-worn camera footage documents the rescue.

Authorities said precautions were taken to protect the identity of those involved and confirmed there are no active criminal investigations related to the incident.
