Two Riverside County Sheriff's Deputies Physically Extricated from Patrol Unit Following Crash, One Critical
HEMET - On 5/12/2023 at about 2:20 am, Cal Fire responded to reports of a traffic collision involving a civilian vehicle and a Riverside County Sheriff's Unit at the intersections of State St and Esplanade Ave in the city of Hemet. Arriving crews located a silver sedan with major front end damage crashed on the side of the road and an RSO unit crashed into a pole, also with major damage. Two deputies were trapped inside the vehicle and required a physical extrication to be removed from the wreckage. One deputy suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital, the deputy who was driving the patrol unit suffered major injuries and was transported to a local trauma center. His condition at this time is unknown. Another three patients from the silver sedan were transported to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. The cause of the crash is unknown and under investigation. The intersection of State St and Esplanade Ave is closed down as a crime scene pending the conclusion of the investigation. At this time it's unknown the duration of the closure. It's unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash
