North Dakota Trooper Hit Twice by Drunk Drivers in 18 Months
BISMARCK, N.D. – A North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper has now survived two separate crashes with drunk drivers in less than 18 months.
On Aug. 8, 2025, Trooper Brown’s patrol car was sideswiped by a driver with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit. It marked the second time Brown has been struck by an impaired driver. The first incident occurred March 10, 2024, when a drunk driver hit him head-on along Highway 83 north of Bismarck.
Both collisions were recorded on Brown’s squad car dash camera. The patrol released the videos to stress the dangers of impaired driving and to remind the public that crashes caused by alcohol are entirely preventable.
“Every one of us has a responsibility to make safe choices and protect lives,” the department said, urging people to plan ahead, find a sober ride and hold each other accountable.
