ROANOKE, Va. — A 33-year-old woman was arrested for driving under the influence after crashing her vehicle into a river early Friday, police said.

Roanoke police responded around 1:23 a.m. Aug. 15 to the area of Wise Avenue and Indian Village Lane SE, where they found a single-vehicle crash. The woman, who was the only person in the car, was taken into custody for DUI.

Police used the incident to remind the public of the dangers of impaired driving, urging residents to plan safe rides home. “Take the high road, not the deep dive,” the department said in a statement.
