Passing Vehicle Strikes Sheriff’s Patrol Unit During Traffic Stop
ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — A marked Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle was struck by a passing motorist while deputies were conducting a traffic stop late Tuesday on Highway 16 north of Poteet, officials said.
The patrol unit sustained significant damage and was totaled in the collision. Authorities said no deputies or motorists were injured.
In accordance with department protocol, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to investigate the crash. The driver who struck the patrol vehicle was cited and released at the scene.
The sheriff’s office used the incident to remind motorists to use caution when approaching emergency vehicles working along roadways. Drivers are urged to slow down and move over when possible, as required by law.
