Indian tax officials seized Rs. 2.3 crore (254,000 GBP) which was being transported in a car spare tyre to illegally fund election expenses.

The tax department received intelligence about cash being transported from Bangalore to Shimoga in South India on April 20. They intercepted the car and found the cash stuffed in the spare tyre of the vehicle.

A video shows IT officials pulling out wads of cash from the stepney of the vehicle.

India’s election commission allows candidates to spend only up to 70 lakhs (77, 168 GBP) in the parliamentary elections.

But as elections have become expensive candidates illegally move money to different areas and finance their campaign.
