Members of GIWUSA (General Industries Workers Union of South Africa) protested for better wages and working conditions outside the offices of South Point in the Cape Town CBD. South Point provides student accommodation for university students across South Africa.

The workers went on strike yesterday and are demanding a minimum salary of R12 500.00, better working conditions and the payment of TERS money. TERS is the Temporary Employer Relief Scheme which makes funds available to businesses affected by the Covid 19 economic downturn.

GIWUSA is an affiliate of SAFTU (South African Federation of Trade Unions), the second largest trade union federation in South Africa after COSATU (Congress of South African Trade Unions).
