Footage shows a customs official catching a man attempting to smuggle $40,000 in Gutka packets in eastern India at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on January 8.

The passenger was on his way to Bangkok.

Customs officials caught a man attempting to smuggle foreign currency in Gutka packets in eastern India's West Bengal.

The incident took place at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on January 8.

Visuals showed an official taking out packets of Gutkha from a bag and ripping them open to take out the US Dollars kept inside them. The foreign currency was folded and concealed in small packs inside the Gutka packets. The official unfolded the notes after taking out the notes. According to a report, a total of $ 40000 worth of foreign currency was recovered from the bag.

The man was reportedly intercepted on January 8 on the basis of intelligence inputs. The passenger was on his way to Bangkok. The man was arrested under section 104 and the foreign currency was seized under section 110 of the Customs Act. He was also reportedly produced before a special court which has remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.
