HONOLULU — A Honolulu Police Department vehicle was struck on the Moanalua Freeway near Fort Shafter on July 10, 2025, while officers were responding to a traffic hazard, the department confirmed.

The marked police vehicle was hit as officers worked to ensure the roadway was safe. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported to either the officers or the other driver involved.

The Honolulu Police Department used the incident to remind the public to drive cautiously near flashing emergency lights. “This is just one example of our officers putting their lives in harm’s way to ensure public safety,” the department said.

Motorists are urged to slow down, remain alert, and give space when passing emergency scenes.
