PALM COAST, Fla. — A Flagler County deputy arrested a Daytona Beach woman after allegedly catching her shoplifting cosmetics at a Walgreens on State Road 100, officials said.

The incident happened Sunday evening when the deputy, who was inside the store, saw a woman later identified as 36-year-old Mia-Alexa Richardson removing items from packaging and concealing them in her pants. Deputies said Richardson tossed the packaging aside and ignored commands to stop when confronted.

After resisting arrest briefly, Richardson was secured with the help of backup deputies. Investigators determined she had attempted to steal 10 cosmetic items. She was charged with petit theft and resisting an officer without violence, transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and later released on a $650 bond.

“This woman deserves the dumb criminal of the week award for trying to shoplift right in front of a deputy sheriff,” Sheriff Rick Staly said, adding that deputies recovered the concealed items and banned her from the store.
