TOWN OF WAYNE, Wis. — Washington County sheriff’s deputies showed quick thinking and humor Saturday morning after responding to an unusual call—an escaped pig on the run in a quiet subdivision.

The pig had wandered about 700 feet from its farm before deputies arrived to assist the farmer. One deputy managed to lasso the pig after a brief hoof pursuit, earning unofficial “county fair champion” status.

The pig, seemingly unimpressed, took a dip in a nearby ditch before deputies worked out the next step. After what the sheriff’s office described as “strategic negotiations,” the pig was safely returned to its pen, now better secured to prevent future escapes.

“This may not be a ‘newsworthy’ story,” the department noted on Facebook, “but it shows the ingenuity and problem-solving deputies take on—sometimes with a lasso.”
